Jak Koke, Publisher | Editorial Director
As a freelance book doctor for more than a decade before starting Per Aspera with Karawynn Long, Jak critiqued, edited, and/or ghostwrote over a hundred novels. Jak oversees publishing and editorial efforts at Per Aspera, from reading submissions through the full process of guiding each individual book to its fullest potential. Some of his Per Aspera titles include Bill DeSmedt’s Dualism and Singularity, Lindsey S. Johnson’s A Ragged Magic, and Our Lady of the Islands by Shannon Page and Jay Lake. Jak also takes the reins on book production, contracts, marketing, and whatever else that needs doing. His tireless optimism and penchant for thinking outside of the box have resulted in the unofficial titles of “Morale Officer” and “Idea Rat”.
Jak has also written seven sf and fantasy novels, including the Locus number one bestsellers Stranger Souls and Beyond the Pale. Visit Jak’s author website.
Shannon Page, Acquisitions Editor | Proofreader
A childhood without television gave Shannon a great love of books and the worlds she found in them. Shannon has published several dozen short stories, and her first novel—Eel River—appeared in 2013.
As an editor for Per Aspera Press, Shannon looks for unusual fantasy stories with complex and interesting characters. Among her recent acquisitions are Chaz Brenchley’s Being Small and the forthcoming Waking up Naked in Strange Places by Julie McGalliard. Visit Shannon’s website.
Karawynn Long, Creative Director | Book Designer
Karawynn entered the sf scene at twenty-two as the youngest writer ever to win the Writers of the Future Grand Prize. Subsequently she published short fiction and poetry in numerous anthologies and magazines, including Full Spectrum 4, Asimov’s SF, and Silver Birch, Blood Moon, before turning her focus to a slightly more lucrative career as a graphic designer.
For Per Aspera, Karawynn currently oversees book and web design, consults on author contracts and copyediting, and collaborates on marketing and publicity.
